Optical coatings

Different optical coatings on glass samples

Metal optic polygons for measuring devices coated with protected Au coating
Metal optic with enhanced Al coating
Au coated metal optic for telescope assembly
Glass ceramics coated with enhanced Ag

Our coatings are used for lenses, windows, mirrors or other parts in optical instruments or measurement tools in high end applications.

Magnetron-deposited high quality thin film optical coatings modify the reflection and transmission properties of a substrate material as they are deposited onto the surface of an optical component. We deposit a wide variety of materials to enhance the spectral properties of an optical system.

We are specialists in precious metal coatings such as

  • Au, enhanced Au, protected Au
  • Ag, enhanced Ag, protected Ag
  • Al, enhanced Al, protected Al
  • others like Mo, Ta, W.

In addition to the coating of glasses and plan optics, we specialize in the coating of metal optics.

The applications of metal optics have various advantages over glass optics and are therefore expanding into ever wider areas: On the one hand, compared to glass, metallic base bodies can be manufactured very easily and in almost any geometry. At the same time, the high thermal conductivity of metal optics enables the components to be actively cooled during operation in applications with the highest energy densities. With the associated optical coating, metal optics are perfectly tailored for use in the required wavelength range.

Metal optics are finding increasing use in semiconductor technology, such as optical lithography systems. Another application are metal optic polygons for optical measurement systems like laser scanners (LIDAR).

Our specialists produce custom coatings that meet your more challenging requirements.

Please find here reflectivity measurements of some of our coatings:

Example: reflectivity measurements of protected Al (blue), protected Au (pink) and protected Ag (black) coatings.
Comparison of reflectivity of protected Au (black) and enhanced Au, optimized for 900 nm (blue) and 1300 nm (red), R>99,2%.
